Harness The Power Of 3 To Reflect, Release and Renew

Our brains love to work in threes. We remember things better when presented in threes. Stories and experiences are relayed with a beginning, middle and end, and our days are often structured around three points in time — morning, afternoon and evening.

The Power of 3 can also be an effective tool for us to break down our experiences and habits. Think about what we want to let go of, change, and identify what we want to bring forward with us.

As 2021 comes to a close, practising this exercise can be your opportunity to look back on what you’ve experienced in the last year and make conscious decisions about what steps you want to put in place to make 2022 the best it can be.

‍Step 1: Reflect‍

Taking time to reflect is your opportunity to hit pause for a moment and take stock of all the experiences that you’ve had in the last year. It gives you the space to breathe, feel and understand the what and why, in turn establishing learnings which “inform future mindsets and actions”. It has been another challenging year, so giving yourself this time to reflect on what has happened is an important step.

When you look back on the year that you’ve had, ask yourself:

  • What are the three biggest moments of 2021?
  • What are the three biggest learnings?

Vision boards can be a great way to reflect and plan your goals.

Step 2: Release

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” — Lao Tzu

Now that you’ve had the opportunity to reflect, it’s time to think about what it is you want to let go of. These can be habits you’d like to break, experiences you want to move forward from, or pressures that you don’t want to carry with you as you move into 2022. Think of this as a life “spring clean” and a way of tidying up what it is that you don’t need anymore. Identify what no longer serves you.

Take a moment to think about:

  • What are the three things you want to release?

Step 3: Renew

There are little things that we can do every day that can have a very positive impact on our life. They can make an impact on our mood, how we respond to immediate stressors, our health or how we approach planning for challenges ahead.

Ultimately, you want to think about the things that you can do to improve your overall physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

Whether it is setting time aside each week for personal learning, exercising more frequently, organising regular catch up with friends, meditating — ask yourself

  • What are the three most important things you want to renew?

To put the plan into action, make sure that you capture what it is that you want to renew. This will help strengthen your goals and move forward with intention.

With 2021 quickly coming to an end now is the perfect time to reflect, release and renew. Make sure you capture what you most want to achieve for yourself and action a plan to manifest your best life.
